ARTIST BIO

Artistic Practice: Contemporary Impressionism • Palette Knife Painting • Mixed Media
Katerina Komarova is a contemporary artist originally from Ukraine, now living and working in Lahti, Finland. Following her relocation caused by the war, painting became more than an artistic practice—it became a way to reconnect with life, rediscover freedom, and preserve hope through creativity.
Working with expressive palette knife techniques, rich textures, and luminous colour, Katerina creates atmospheric landscapes that invite viewers to experience nature emotionally rather than descriptively. Her recent works are created entirely from memory and intuition, without photographic references, allowing each painting to emerge as a direct reflection of inner perception and lived experience.
Her paintings have been presented in exhibitions in Finland and are held in private collections across Europe.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work explores the quiet beauty of the present moment.
The two paintings presented in AWAKENING were created entirely from memory and inner sensation, without using photographic references. Rather than documenting a landscape, I seek to preserve a feeling—the fleeting instant when light, emotion, and memory merge into a single experience.
Impressionism offers the visual language that allows me to speak not only about what is seen, but about what is deeply felt. Through expressive textures, bold palette knife strokes, and layered surfaces, I create spaces where viewers can slow down, breathe, and reconnect with themselves.
I work with acrylic, oil, and modelling paste on canvas, building tactile surfaces that transform with changing light and invite close observation.
The works presented in this exhibition are:
The Moon — acrylic and modelling paste on canvas
A meditation on inner light and silent presence.
The Moment — mixed media on canvas (acrylic, oil, modelling paste)
An atmospheric landscape celebrating the unrepeatable beauty of the present.
For me, AWAKENING is not a dramatic transformation but a quiet return—to life, to hope, and to the awareness that this very moment is unique and will never exist again.
